August 30, 2009: John 16 - Jesus Redefines Obedience

John 16:1-15

Is God really up in heaven waiting for us to jump through His hoops so that He can give us our treat, or could there be more to what gospel obedience looks like? What if obedience to God cost you more than you ever dared imagine it would, and there was no promise of a treat if you perform? Come join us as we explore this question together, and look to be surprised by the grace of obedience.

August 23, 2009: John 15 - Jesus Redefines Love

John 15:1-15

This Sunday is the second of four consecutive of preview worship at All Souls, and we will be continuing in our series, Life With God, It's Not What You Think. This week, we will be looking at John 15 and asking the question, How does Jesus redefine even our concept of love? All you need to do is turn on the TV or look at the magazine rack at the grocery store to get a feel for how our culture wants us to understand love, and yet, we are the loneliest, most individualistic, most depressed country in the history of the world. Could something be wrong with our understanding of what love is all about? Come join us as we explore this question together.

August 16, 2009: John 14 - Jesus Redefines Worship

John 14:1-14

Should we be afraid of God? The answer to this question may surprise you. To a generation that loves warm and fuzzy spirituality, the whole idea of a God to fear is a bit appalling. And yet, the question remains whether that is because God is a tyrant or because our understanding of what it means to fear Him is skewed? Come here how life with a fear-evoking God is a good thing! And more than that, how it is actually what Jesus points to as the very source of our comfort in this broken world.

July 12, 2009: John 13- Jesus Redefines Religion

John 13:1-17

What is it about religion that so many of us find offensive? What are the things we associate with that term that give us a bad taste in our mouths? And, are those things really what Jesus had in mind when He came to establish His church? This study takes a look at Jesus' radical religiosity and His call for us to follow Him in a very surprising direction.

June 28, 2009: John 9- Jesus Redefines Sin

John 9:1-12

Sin is the only three-lettered, four-letter word that exists in our daily vocabulary. And while we all have different reasons for that, what if part of Jesus' purpose in coming to walk this earth was to redefine even the way we think about the concept of sin and our brokenness? Could it be that EVEN our sin has a purpose to it?
